My Beautiful Daughter Debbie!! Back in 1999 I met and fell in love with a wonderful man named Bob.
After a while he decided to introduce me to his daughters who lived in Arizona,so we went to Arizona,
so I could get to know them. He had two daughters living there, but his oldest daughter Debbie and
I just bonded almost immediately. She was a complicated and yet honest and caring young woman and I was drawn to
her from the first glimpse. She opened her home, family and heart to me and made me feel as welcome
as one could be while I was down there. I'll never forget our time down there together. Her home was full of her
crafts and handiwork that just amazed me. She was just so talented but so humble when you mentioned
her beautiful work. After returning home we continued our bonding with frequent phone
calls and updates on our families and lives. Before long Debbie said she wanted to return here to New England
with her husband and child. They were having financial problems and she just wasn't feeling well but she didn't
tell us this then. Her father and I said we would love to have her come home and would help any way
we could. She sold all there extra belongings and rented a U-Haul trailer and headed north in their two pickup
trucks with their daughter and her pet cat Astro in tow. When she arrived she
stayed in our camper at the campground we used and since it was July we had a marvelous summer with them there.
We helped them find an apartment and get settled in their new home. We were either together daily or
talked daily on the phone from that day on. She had only one thing she asked of me and that was, "Can you
just love me and be my Mom." I was never so honored or felt so loved and special before. I assured her that I indead
did love her and that I would be proud to be her Mom. We had Thanksgiving at her home that
year and Christmas was just great with her home. Her Birthday in January was the first one her dad and
her had been able to celebrate together for many years. In the spring we planned yet another great summer together.
She started with a cough and congestion as winter faded and spring came in. She saw a doctor
and went on antibiotics but didn't improve so tests were done. I was so afraid she had pneumonia but now wish that
was all she had. She quickly, despite her valiant fight, went downhill health wise. She lost weight
and couldn't keep much food down. She was diagnosed with lung cancer. Then Chemo and Radiation were started
and we prayed for a miracle but none was to be had. On September 1, 2004 our precious daughter Debbie
lost her battle to Lung Cancer. The last thing she said to me was, "Mom just love me". I assured her
I did with all my heart. Her death has left another big hole in my heart that can never be filled.
Thanks for listening to my story of, Debbie-My Daughter.
